Adam Pettit began his formal training on the classical guitar at age fifteen, at the Texas Christian University Music Preparatory program and local pedagogue, Charles Postlewate. Shortly thereafter, in 1997, he received the gold medal at the University Interscholastic League Competition's state competition on classical guitar, and was subsequently awarded Outstanding Performer.
Upon his graduation, he then entered the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University under scholarship in 1998 studying in the studio of Julian Gray while receiving extra training from Manuel Barrueco and Ray Chester. Immediately after graduating in 2002 with high honors, earning his Bachelor of Music degree, he continued his studies at Peabody earning his Master of Music in Guitar Performance which he completed in 2004. Currently, Adam Pettit is enrolled at the University of Southern California as a Doctorate of Musical Arts candidate and Teaching Assistant where he studied with William Kanengiser, James Smith, Brian Head, and Pepe Romero.
In 2006, Adam had the privilege of performing Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint as soloist, for Maestro Reich himself at his 70th birhtday celebration. Also during this time he was selected as the First Prize winner of the USC Donald Miller Guitar Concerto Competition.
In addition to solo performances, Adam collaborates with a number of chamber groups. This past summer, he completed a recording project with Toronto-based guitarist, Rob MacDonald, featuring contemporary guitar compositions.
